Build confidence through approachable lessons and examples.
Built for the Valley
A local place to explore AI—without the hype.
We're creating a youth-led club where students can understand how AI works, build useful projects, and think carefully about how technology can support people and communities across the San Fernando Valley.
Who it's for
Everyone starts somewhere.
Middle school and high school students are welcome. You do not need prior coding or AI experience—just an interest in learning with others.
College students who want to mentor are welcome too. Much of what the club does works best when someone a few years ahead is sitting alongside a student working through their first project.
Use coding, data, simulation, and robotics to test what is possible.
Choose projects that matter to students, families, and the Valley.
What we'll explore
Three themes, one community.
Students can try one area or move between all three. Events are tagged by theme so you can follow what interests you.

AI for Health & Data Science
Explore how data and AI can help us understand health, spot patterns, and ask better questions.
- Health data
- Prediction
- Responsible AI

Coding, Simulation & Robotics
Learn programming by modeling real systems, testing ideas, and connecting code to the physical world.
- Programming
- Simulation
- Robotics

AI for the Valley Community & Environment
Build locally meaningful projects around community needs, the environment, and everyday life in the Valley.

What we're planning
Small starts. Bigger challenges later.
We begin with accessible learning events, then grow into team-based challenges as the community takes shape.
AI Workshops
Friendly, hands-on introductions for students at any experience level.
AI Camps
Longer sessions to go deeper on a theme with mentors alongside you.
Datathon
Work with a real dataset, form a question, and communicate what you discover.
Hackathon
Team up to design and build a useful AI-powered project around a shared challenge.
Codathon
Practice programming together through focused challenges and peer support.
Mentorship
Student-led, with experienced guidance.
The club is led by high school students and guided by UCLA faculty and student mentors with experience in Data Science and AI for Health education. We work in collaboration with CHEER.
The Valley AI Club is a community initiative and does not represent an official UCLA program.Help shape the club
